Dead Man Rising

The journey from Petrafied, more commonly known as Petra, to The Dead Sea is a driver’s drive.

On par with the 101 from LA to SanFran and Chapman’s Peak in South Africa but with wide empty roads, except the check points with rifles at the ready. Grab something with some grunt and away you go, just make sure the thing with grunt is a car and not a check point guard.

Once through the White House security arrangements that every hotel deploys (taking 15 minutes) there is not much to do but relax…mainly cause the state of the security arrangements encourages you to stay put – if it wasn’t so real it would be a clever incentive. While peaceful within there is an imminent sense of danger outside.

So into the Dead Sea you go! Well this previously almost dead man certainly rose, it is hard not to as you really do float as the black thick mud that you first cover yourself in comes off. Tourists go from pale white upon arrival, to looking like a character M. Night Shyamalan created when covered in mud, to kids as they shriek with delight at the experience upon gently lowering themselves into the salt infused water.

I was gone in 40 hours from start to finish, in 40 years the Dead Sea will be gone…don’t let this opportunity float away from you, while there make sure you do more than just see it and dive right in – puns and all.
